A single vineyard chardonnay from old vines planted in Wilyabrup in 1985, pretty much as old as vines get in Margs. The concentration and depth of flavour of the wine are highlighted by 40% new French oak barrels and vibrant natural acidity. Jasmine, grapefruit, white stone fruits, lanolin and cashews great the nose and lead to a focused and precise palate with structural acid, minerality and a pure white-fruit tannin that carries through all the way to the lengthy finish. Drink now for freshness and purity of fruit with a rounded oaky mouthfeel, keep in the cellar for up to 10 years for a bit of extra complexity and more classic tertiary notes. This is a stupidly good wine, especially for this price.
